Raise with Praise®, Inc.

A non-profit educational organization

Raise with Praise®, Inc. is a non-profit educational organization (501(c)(3)), founded by Paul Owens, author of the acclaimed book, The Dog Whisperer: A Compassionate, Nonviolent Approach to Dog Training.

Raise with Praise®, Inc. offers seminars, animal training classes, products, and elementary school programs which advocate and promote the principles of nonviolence: kindness, compassion, and respect for all living things. We emphasize the link between the human-to-animal, human-to-human behavioral connection. If humans, especially children, can learn to practice nonviolence with animals, these nonviolent behaviors can be directly linked to practicing nonviolence with themselves, other people, and the environment.

Biographical Sketch

Paul Owens began training dogs in 1972 and has earned several awards in competitive obedience. He is a certified evaluator for the Delta Society's Animal Assisted Therapy Program and a member of The National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI),and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). His specialty is in the evaluation and behavior modification of aggressive dogs and he is frequently consulted and referred by veterinarians.

Paul has studied, practiced and taught yoga and stress management (for humans) in the United States and India for more than 25 years.

In 1991, Paul drew on his unique experience and background to address the link between human and animal behavior by founding the non-profit educational organization Raise with Praise, Inc. Over the years Paul has taught and consulted for thousands of families and individuals working to improve the dog-human relationship.

Paul says, "I believe nonviolence fosters nonviolence. Because of the link between dog and human behavior, it's possible that a holistic program of nonviolent dog training, coupled with self-health stress management methods, may play a role in helping build a world of peace for humans and dogs. When people, especially children, are successful using nonviolent methods with animals, they feel good about themselves and they are encouraged to have a kinder, more positive attitude with their friends, family and the environment."
